So yes, you can reskin any unit in Version 2. This will show up for The Run801 and ATSF SD45-2's as they both use the Run801 texture. So I set to work modifying the texture to make it fit the SD45-2 and this is the end result. It is recommended that you make a backup copy of the original file before you replace it. Please be sure to read the README included in each file. IMPORTANT: All locomotive/railcar repaints on this page are compatible with Run 8 TS Version 2 and 3. Last week I discovered that the ATSF SD40-2 texture fits the front half of the SD45-2 for the most part. Run 8 Locomotive/Railcar RepaintsRun 8 TS Version 2/Version 3. It's terrible, I know, but that wasn't the point of it. The same rings true for the SD45-2's and Tunnel Motors. NOTE: At the moment if you were to reskin the NS ACe it would also affect the UP02, and The Run8 Western ACes as well since they are all currently using the same RunW texture.
I made a test skin to the appropriate size for Run8 (2048x2048) and converted it the way I did in the video above. Last month I was messing around with the idea of making a test skin and replacing the NS ACe texture (Run8 Western) with it. BUT I never said you couldn't reskin them. Remember how I said that it wasn't posssible to extract the textures for V2 units such as the Tunnel Motors? That still remains true. (Like the flatcar I'm making in the other thread) As long as your custom reskins/models/sounds are for private-use only and you state that in your post, you're good to go!īumping this thread because I made a discovery a few weeks ago 100% relevant to the topic. I'm more into the technical aspects of the sim, such as the ability to import custom models and sounds. I leave that up to the community, it's just not my thing. I personally don't do reskins much anyway, I'm not an artist. But no one from Run8 Studios has taken any action against me since I started modding back in February 2016 and it doesn't look like they ever plan to. Seeing people replace the textures you worked so hard to make must be really hard to take. From what I know Nigel isn't exactly happy about people reskinning his locomotives and rolling stock and he has every right to be. Nigel, their lead artist, however, has a different view. You change to a Class55 Deltic from there and as the journey moves along so the little problems you encounter grow. On the Run8 Community Facebook group John and Jason monitor my modding and other user's modding and they seem to be okay with what I do since I'm not redistributing anything and uphold the EULA.
